Local scrap prices in Turkey mostly stable as mills assess global trend

Friday, 06 March 2026 16:33:16 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

As Turkish mills are trying to understand the future trend of the international scrap market, they have decided to keep their local scrap purchase prices stable this week. Only one producer has cut its prices further by TRY 100/mt or $3/mt this week. Other mills have made no new announcements, but their domestic scrap prices have declined by another $1/mt week on week on US dollar basis due to the depreciation of the Turkish lira. The lira has passed the 44 threshold against the dollar today, March 6. Unfortunately, the depreciation of the lira is expected to continue as uncertainties in the region increase.

The general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap has remained at TRY 14,600-17,050/mt. Due to the fluctuations observed in the exchange rate, the dollar-based quotations have changed from $332-388/mt to $331-387/mt.
