Turkey’s ship scrap purchase prices increase on the lower end

Two steel mills in Turkey’s Izmir region have increased their ship scrap purchase prices during the past weekend by $5-7/mt as compared to the levels shared by SteelOrbis on July 7, while other two steelmakers have kept their prices stable. As a result, ship scrap purchase quotations in Turkey have moved up by $5/mt on the lower end and are now in the range of $245-251/mt, for delivery to mill by truck.

According to market sources, the decision to increase prices was given to accelerate the ship scrap flow to the mills. The steel producers that raised their purchase prices were representing the lower end of the price range - at $240/mt - last week.
