Tokyo Steel hikes scrap price for Utsunomiya further, export outlook bullish

Japanese EAF-based producer Tokyo Steel has increased its scrap purchase price again for its Utsunomiya plant on Tuesday, August 4. The previous increase was announced on July 27 for the same asset.

Accordingly, Tokyo Steel has raised its H2 scrap price by another JPY 500/mt ($4.7/mt) for Utsunomiya to JPY 23,000/mt ($217/mt) delivered. Prices for the other four assets have remained stable in the range of JPY 22,000-23,500/mt.

The tradable value for Japanese H2 scrap rose to JPY 25,000-25,500/mt ($238-243/mt) FOB last week. At the moment, most offers are at JPY 25,500-26,000/mt FOB. Sources from Vietnam reported offers at around $275/mt CFR for Japanese H2, which translates to JPY 25,500/mt FOB.
