Some Turkish mills cut their domestic scrap purchase prices

Some Turkish mills have decreased their domestic scrap purchase prices over the past week, most probably following the downturn in the import scrap segment, which may continue. In addition, low demand for finished steel locally also puts pressure on producers’ raw material purchase prices. “Turkish mills are expecting a further drop in import tags. As local demand is weak, they purchase domestic scrap only according to their needs,” a source told SteelOrbis. In the meantime some key steel mills in Turkey have kept their offers on Turkish lira basis unchanged for now, which resulted in a minor downward correction in prices on US dollar basis.

According to market sources, the local scrap purchase prices of Turkish mills as of August 15, 2019 stand at the following levels:
