Short sea scrap market weakens once again in Turkey

While the deep sea scrap import market in Turkey waits for either of the two sides in the market to make a move and to clarify pricing, players in the short sea segment tend to be pessimistic.

According to market sources, an ex-Israel HMS I/II 75:25 scrap cargo of 4,000 mt has been sold at $250/mt CFR Iskenderun, SteelOrbis has learned. Accordingly, last week’s bids have been accepted by the suppliers, which means a $5/mt decrease compared to the previous transaction level.

In addition, some Turkish mills have been giving bids to HMS I/II 80:20 sellers from Romania and the Adriatic region at around $260/mt CFR, while the latest deals were closed at $268-270/mt CFR.

Overall activity of buyers in the short sea segment has been weak, similar to the situation in the deep sea segment. Some sources expect that, if mills remain silent, scrap sellers may have to give in.
