After the collapse observed in the Turkish import scrap market with the ex-Canada deal heard in the market yesterday, March 18, mills in Turkey’s İzmir region have reduced their ship scrap purchase quotations several times today.

As a result, ship scrap purchase prices in the region have decreased rapidly by $15-20/mt as compared to yesterday. With this move, ship scrap prices have fallen from the range of $265-271/mt recorded on Monday, March 16, to $228-235/mt, for delivery to mill by truck. Turkish steel mills Izmir Demir Celik (IDC) and Cebitas are still out of the market.

In Turkey's Izmir region, the ship scrap purchase prices of local steelmakers are as follows:

Producer

Price ($/mt)

Price change ($/mt)

Özkan Demir Çelik

230

-20

Habaş

235

-17

Ege Çelik

228

-15

All the above prices are for delivery to mill by truck.
