The current period is a hot one as regards the European scrap metal market, though Italy is seeing temperatures which are somewhat milder.

In Europe, specifically France, Germany, Hungary and Switzerland, the price levels of concluded contracts have seen average increases of Euro 15/mt, with an even bigger rise for higher quality scrap grades.

The international scene today is one of strong demand in a situation of restricted availability. Indicative of this situation is a contract signed by a Turkish mill for the supply of A3 scrap at $330/mt.

The Italian market, on the other hand, presents an atypical situation. While demand is as strong as it is outside of Italy, it is supported by sufficiently high availability of offers.

The immediate outlook is for an increase in the gap between national prices and the international ones which are on an upward trend.
