More downward revisions in local Turkish scrap market

Tuesday, 21 January 2020 15:40:40 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Some steel producers in Turkey have decided to follow the downward trend in the local scrap market after a few key mills decreased their prices yesterday, January 20. As a result, the domestic scrap purchase prices of some Turkish mills have slid by TRY 20-50/mt or $5-10/mt depending on the buyer and the scrap grade. As regards the mills who have kept their price levels on Turkish lira basis unchanged, their prices on US dollar basis have declined by $1-2/mt due to currency fluctuations. Sources expect that local purchase prices for scrap may continue to fall in Turkey if new import transactions are closed at lower levels.
