Turkish steelmaker Kardemir has reduced its domestic scrap purchase prices as compared to the levels recorded on January 8, to the range of TRY 200-225/mt or $37-40/mt, depending on the grade. Due to the depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar, the dollar-based quotations of other mills that kept their local currency prices stable have decreased by $8-10/mt in the same period. Currently, the general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap is in the range of TRY 3,150-3,625/mt, while the dollar-based quotations have decreased from the range of $429-507/mt to $421-484/mt. The scrap flow in the local Turkish market is still strong, one market source stated.
