Further downtrend in local Turkish scrap market

Friday, 05 February 2021 16:26:51 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Most Turkish mills have announced a further softening in their domestic scrap purchase prices today, February 5, with decreases in the range of TRY 50-150/mt, resulting in a $1-17/mt decrease on dollar basis as compared to Wednesday (February 3). Due to the sharp appreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar, the dollar-based quotations of the other mills which decided to keep their lira-based prices stable have increased by $4-6/mt.

Since Wednesday, the general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap has moved down from TRY 2,700-3,275/mt to TRY 2,640-3,125/mt, while the dollar-based quotations have moved down from the range of $377-457/mt to $373-442/mt.

Meanwhile, market sources state that the downtrend observed in the local Turkish scrap market for some time now is almost at an end.
