Sources inform SteelOrbis that the US pig iron import market has remained silent since a well-publicized spot purchase of basic steelmaking pig iron from the CIS at $380/mt CFR in early December. A source noted that the $375-385 CFR offers for basic pig iron have softened $5/mt to $370-380/mt CFR given the lull in sales and the possibility that US domestic scrap prices may tick down, at least in the East coast, in January as a result of the export effect as Turkish mills are purchasing limited volumes and placing downward pressure on scrap import prices.
