Decrease observed in local Turkish ship scrap market

After reducing their ship scrap purchase prices slightly earlier today, January 15, Izmir-based mills have decided that another reduction in prices is possible. Accordingly, the total decrease recorded in the ship scrap segment is now $2-5/mt as compared to the levels observed on January 11. Currently, the general range is still at $455-463/mt, with Cebitas and Habas keeping their quotations stable since January 11. One source stated that this decision to cut prices was in line with their expectations of a correction in the deep sea scrap segment, while another source added that scrap flow is very strong resulting in some room for a price decline.
