Chinese domestic coking coal prices have been stable in the past week, with coking coal prices remaining at high levels amid a shortage of high quality coal. Metallurgical coke market prices in Chin have picked up slightly in the past week. Some coke mills have raised their price by $3.1-15.6/mt, while steel mills seem to be finding it hard to accept the increase. Coke futures at Dalian Commodity Exchange were reported at $349/mt towards the end of last week, down $11.6/mt week on week.

Chinese domestic second grade coke prices rose by $7.8/mt week on week to $310.8/mt. Coke prices climbed up by $7.8/mt in the Huaibei market and by $15.6/mt in the Zibo market, both week on week.
Although China's coke market picked up slightly in the past week due to cost support, the weakening of steel prices has caused a slowdown in demand. Coke production is still limited in Shanxi. Meanwhile, coke inventory has increased at Chinese ports.
