Scrap prices in the US have finally settled, sources note, adding that in some regions, shredded and busheling settled levels that were “at or very close to each other.”
“We saw busheling and shredded within $10/gt of each other in Detroit, and in Pittsburgh, both grades settled at $420/gt,” a source said.
The spread between these grades in the Ohio Valley is just $20/gt, another source added, and a Chicago source confirmed that prices this month “don’t make any sense,” as busheling scrap in that region settled “roughly $30/gt below shredded.”
“There’s a lot about the market that doesn’t make sense this month,” a final source added. “But we are where we are.”
