The wire rod market in Poland has been lively in terms of offers from various suppliers, but somewhat slow in terms of business activity. Following some restocking seen earlier in July, suppliers seem not so eager to actively book at new higher levels from the local mill, particularly while receiving competitive import offers from some sellers.

According to sources, the domestic workable price levels for wire rod in Poland have increased by €30/mt over the past two weeks in the local market to €840/mt CPT for SAE1006 quality. Some market players, however, report that the main domestic supplier has been targeting offers as high as €870-880/mt CPT. “The demand [for wire rod] is not strong in Poland and those price increases are mostly driven by a rise in the mills’ production costs,” a trader told SteelOrbis.

In the import segment, Polish customers have been receiving numerous offers. The highest level has reportedly been coming from an Italian mill at €880/mt CPT, having increased by around €80/mt over almost a month. Some of the sources report €10/mt lower levels may be achievable, but there are more attractive offers in the market. Germany has been targeting €850/mt CPT, while the Czech Republic has been willing to sell at €815-830/mt CPT, sources say. Some of the buyers, however, report slight discounts may be on the table as well. In the meantime, wire rod from Moldova has been available at €820-830/mt CPT, while Ukraine has voiced levels close to €800-810/mt CPT.
