According to market sources, wire rod prices in the local Turkish market are currently in the range of $480-507/mt ex-works. Turkish producers have increased their prices in Turkish lira basis over the same period, influenced by the strengthening of the US dollar against the Turkish lira. Transaction activity in the local Turkish wire rod market was lively in the first half of May, while demand has slowed down lately. Market sources state that buyers are very cautious about purchasing wire rod since the US dollar-Turkish lira exchange rate may fluctuate ahead of the general elections to be held on June 7. On the other hand, in some regions wire rod producers will start their planned maintenance works during Ramadan which starts on June 18 and they have already stopped accepting new orders. This is expected to cause a decline in Turkish wire rod supply in the coming period.
