US rebar prices steady for now

Activity within the US domestic rebar market has not picked up yet following the holidays, but sources tell SteelOrbis that activity could resume as soon as the beginning of next week. As for prices, after a rumored mill price increase failed to materialize in December, sources say it’s not likely mills will push for a price increase this month. However, if US domestic rebar spot prices start to drift downward, as they did last month, US rebar mills might need to “shore up” prices with a modest increase.

Until then, the last-heard US domestic rebar spot prices are $35.00-$38.50 cwt. ($700-$770/nt or $772-$849/mt) ex-mill, unchanged in the last week.
