US import wire rod market remains quiet

Now that some US states and many US cities are directing all non-essential businesses to cease operations so workers can stay home during the coronavirus outbreak, manufacturing activity—and the demand for wire rod—is expected to plunge. Industries that are still operating are largely turning to US domestic wire rod mills for materials due to the risk of importing during such extreme uncertainty. As such, no new offers for US import wire rod have been heard this week—the last-heard offer price from Germany was at $29.50-$30.50 cwt. ($650-$672/mt or $590-$610/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports.
