With projections of relative stability in the US domestic rebar market, sources tell SteelOrbis that import offers are also trending neutral. Demand for rebar in the US is steady, but it’s not robust enough for buyers to place significant offshore orders quite yet. However, sources say that since US domestic rebar mills are becoming less willing to offer foreign fighter deals, buyers who prefer lower prices more than shorter lead times are expected to increase import inquiry activity soon.
This week, US import rebar offers are stable, with offers from Algeria and Egypt are mostly stable at $37.00-$38.00 cwt. ($816-$838/mt or $740-$760/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports. Offers from Mexico, meanwhile, are still ranging from $40.00-$41.00 cwt. ($882-$904/mt or $800-$820/nt) DDP Houston, although sources report more offers heard below the $40.00 cwt. level.
