As rebar demand in the US continues to follow a strong but steady trend, import rebar interest is growing although offer prices for now remain unchanged. Some sources have reported a rise in position availability at the ports—import license data already show 83,358 mt of rebar import permits in April as of April 14—but tags are “not too far off” from current import offers and thus not inspiring a rush to buy.

Sources say there’s still room for import rebar offers to gradually push upward along with an overall upward trend for steel prices, but for now, US import rebar offers are unchanged week-on-week at $38.00-$39.50 cwt. ($838-$871/mt or $760-$790/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports from Turkey, and $37.50-$38.50 cwt. ($827-$849/mt or $750-$770/nt) DDP Houston from Mexico.
