While demand in the US import rebar market remains “less than robust,” sources tell SteelOrbis that offer prices have ticked down slightly in the last week, by about $0.25 cwt. ($5.50/mt or $5/nt). US import rebar offers from Spain are now heard as low as $33.75 cwt. ($744/mt or $675/nt) DDP loaded truck at US Gulf ports, while offers from Bulgaria and Portugal are now heard around $34.25 cwt. ($755/mt or $685/nt) DDP loaded truck at US Gulf ports.
As import rebar from the above countries trend together in terms of prices, they are also trending similarly regarding incoming arrivals at US ports. According to the latest US steel import data, the US has not registered any rebar import permits in April (as of April 23) from Spain, Bulgaria, or Portugal, despite import permit totals in March of 18,052 mt, 15,870 mt, and 24,366 mt, respectively.
