US import rebar interest remains low

Sources continue to tell SteelOrbis that interest in US rebar imports remains low, mostly due to the willingness of US domestic rebar mills to offer deals when presented with an import offer. Some sources say if demand levels rise following the typically-slow summer season, interest in imports could rise as well. Until then, US import rebar offers are mostly stable, although sources say slightly better import offers might be available for serious buyers looking to actually book an order.

This week, US impot rebar offers from Algeria and Egypt are still around $38.00-$39.00 cwt. ($838-$860/mt or $760-$780/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, while Mexican rebar offers are also unchanged week-on-week at $41.50-$42.50 cwt. ($915-$937/mt or $830-$850/nt) DDP Houston.
