Over the past week, Turkish domestic official merchant bar prices have mainly fallen by TRY 1,050/mt ($26-27/mt) in the Denizli and Izmir regions, against the backdrop of the ongoing depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar and sluggish demand. One Iskenderun-based mill has issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 16,600/mt ($622/mt) ex-works, SteelOrbis has heard.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for September-early October delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. "Most buyers are exerting pressure for further discounts, which leads to a sharp decline in merchant bar prices" one source mentioned.
