Due to the depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar, Turkish merchant bar producers have increased their domestic offers by TRY 50-115/mt as compared to SteelOrbis’ report published on March 21 to TRY 2,950-3,180/mt ($522-563/mt) ex-works, excluding VAT. Market sources state that demand in the local Turkish merchant bar market is at low levels since buyers are cautious as regards new purchases amid the fluctuating trend of the Turkish lira-US dollar exchange rate and also due to the ongoing uncertainties surrounding the local election results in major Turkish cities.
In the past two-week period, Turkish merchant bar mills first increased their domestic offers in line with the movements of the exchange rate, and then some mills have kept their prices stable, while others adjusted their quotations downwards. On the other hand, prices in Turkey’s Iskenderun region - where prices are usually lower than in other regions of the country - increased by relatively smaller margins.
