In the past two weeks, Turkish merchant bar prices have risen by TRY 4,060-4,750/mt ($243-289/mt) amid the costlier scrap and billet prices and currency fluctuations. “Demand is fairly low. Most buyers are in a wait-and-see mode due to the sharp merchant bar price hikes,” one source commented.
Turkish merchant bar re-rollers are mainly offering for May delivery or are offering limited tonnages available either from stocks or for late April delivery. An Izmir-based mill which was offering HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) has withdrawn its prices for now. “The ideal pricing should be around $1,240/mt ex-works,” one source mentioned.
