Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have increased by TRY 550-930/mt, mostly falling by $11-13/mt on US dollar basis amid the ongoing depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar and given the unclear financial situation in the country. One Iskenderun-based mill has issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 14,500/mt ($671/mt) ex-works, up TRY 550/mt over the past week, while falling by $11/mt on US dollar basis.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for June delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. A few re-rollers have increased their HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) prices by TRY 500/mt in the local currency at TRY 18,000/mt, excluding VAT, ($833/mt) ex-works, falling by $23/mt over the same period.
Most local buyers are monitoring the import scrap and billet price trends and are taking their time before concluding new purchases.
