Local Turkish merchant bar list prices have risen by TRY 315-550/mt ($20-48/mt) in the last two weeks amid currency fluctuations and stronger scrap prices. Sources report that merchant bar prices in the Karabuk region are a bit higher than in other regions due to the extended delivery period (August). However, demand is slow as most buyers are maintaining a wait-and-see stance to gain a better understanding of the market and financial conditions in the country given the lockdown which will continue until after Ramadan.
In the Iskenderun region, merchant bar quotations are still offered in US dollars to avoid currency risks. One Marmara-based mill was expected to raise its merchant bar prices today, although the producer preferred to close its merchant bar sales instead. One Izmir-based mill is currently offering HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) at around $830-840/mt ex-works.
