Romanian long steel prices have remained stable in the spot market over the past week, with the sole domestic rebar producer also keeping its prices unchanged, as market conditions have remained quiet ahead of the Orthodox Easter holiday period. Demand has continued at moderate levels, with activity largely limited to basic needs and not strong enough to create upward pressure on prices. The approaching holiday, spanning from Friday through Monday, has further reinforced the holiday mood, weighing on trading appetite and keeping overall market movements subdued. In the import segment, no new bookings have been reported, as Romanian buyers have largely stayed on the sidelines, with expectations that activity will pick up after the holiday.
In the spot market, Romanian rebar prices have remained unchanged week on week at €610-620/mt ex-warehouse. The domestic producer has maintained its official price indications at €590-595/mt ex-works, though these levels are not fully reflective of the market, as sales have continued mainly from existing stocks. Meanwhile, higher price ideas at €600-605/mt ex-works are still being voiced, but remain unconfirmed.
In the wire rod segment, prices have also remained stable over the past week, with offers at €620-630/mt ex-warehouse.
In the import market, activity has remained subdued, with no fresh bookings reported so far. However, relatively low stock levels in the domestic market are expected to support purchasing activity in the coming weeks. Offer levels have mostly remained stable, with a Bulgarian supplier keeping rebar offers at €630-640/mt CPT, while Greek suppliers have held their levels at €655/mt CFR for rebar and €650/mt CFR for wire rod. Meanwhile, an Egyptian mill has increased its April shipment offers to €560-565/mt CFR for rebar and €565-570/mt CFR for wire rod, up week on week. In contrast, Turkish suppliers have slightly softened their rebar offers to €540-555/mt CFR, from €545-560/mt previously, based on an exchange rate of €1 = $1.17 and freight costs of €25-30/mt.
