Romanian longs prices have softened this week, as the increases recorded last week following the EU quota changes and CBAM-related cost concerns have proved difficult to sustain. While the country's sole rebar producer has kept its official offer levels unchanged and has preferred to grant discounts depending on the transaction, Romanian longs traders have started to lower their spot quotations. The already weak demand, expectations of a further slowdown in August, and persistent liquidity constraints have all increased the pressure on sellers, leading to softer workable levels in both the rebar and wire rod segments.
As a result, domestic rebar spot prices are currently heard at around €630-640/mt ex-warehouse, compared to €640-650/mt ex-warehouse last week.
Domestic producer Beltrame Group's official rebar offers have remained at around €635-640/mt ex-works, unchanged from last week, while material availability is still reported to be limited. Nevertheless, market participants have also heard discounted levels of around €620-630/mt ex-works amid limited buying activity.
In the wire rod segment, domestic spot prices have decreased to around €670-690/mt ex-warehouse, compared to €695-705/mt ex-warehouse last week, with buying activity remaining particularly slow.
On the import side, no fresh deal has been heard so far this week, as Romanian buyers have remained cautious and largely relied on their existing stocks. Slow end-user demand has temporarily reduced import interest, while the implications of the EU quota changes and CBAM-related costs have still not been fully clarified in buyers' calculations. In the EU segment, no fresh Italian offer has been reported this week, while the previous rebar level was heard at around €665-670/mt CPT Romania. Hungarian rebar offers have decreased to approximately €650/mt delivered, compared to €660/mt delivered last week, while Hungarian rebar in coil prices have fallen to around €670/mt delivered, down from €680-685/mt delivered. Bulgarian rebar offers are currently heard at around €660-670/mt CPT Romania, compared to €660-675/mt CPT Romania last week. In the non-EU segment, Egyptian rebar offers have decreased to around €530-545/mt CFR Romania, compared to €535-550/mt CFR Romania last week. Egyptian wire rod offers are currently heard at approximately €535-555/mt CFR Romania, down from €545-560/mt CFR Romania. Turkish rebar offers have remained broadly stable at around €520-530/mt CFR Romania, compared to €515-530/mt CFR Romania last week.
