As of today, December 15, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have mainly decreased by TRY 100-200/mt ($3-5/mt) amid sluggish demand, while only rising by TRY 200/mt ($2-3/mt) in the Marmara region against the backdrop of ongoing currency fluctuations, compared to December 11. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,600-30,000/mt ($558-585/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 42.70.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş's prices, have settled at $560-595/mt ex-works, down by $5-10/mt, while acceptable prices are at $555-585/mt ex-works, also down by $10/mt on the lower end over the same period. Producers in the Marmara region are testing rebar sales at $590-595/mt ex-works for late December delivery, unchanged compared to December 11.
Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 28,500-28,700/mt ($556-560/mt) ex-warehouse, indicating a decrease of TRY 100/mt on the higher end with a $2-3/mt drop on US dollar basis, compared to December 11.
One Samsun-based mill has extended the closure of its rebar sales until Monday, December 22.
A few Turkish mills are applying aggressive pricing policies in order to generate sales, while most buyers are purchasing only in line with their daily needs as the year is about to end.
