As of today, January 12, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have risen by TRY 300/mt ($4-5/mt), amid the ongoing currency fluctuations and costlier import scrap, as compared to January 8. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,900-29,800/mt ($558-576/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 43.13.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $560-585/mt ex-works, up by $5/mt on the higher end, while acceptable prices have settled at $555-580/mt ex-works, also up by $5/mt on the higher end, over the same period. One Marmara-based mill has closed its rebar sales today.
Two Iskenderun-based mills have set their official rebar prices today at TRY 29,000-29,200/mt ($560-564/mt) ex-works, up by TRY 500/mt ($8-9/mt) compared to January 8. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 28,800-29,000/mt ($556-560/mt) ex-warehouse, also rising by TRY 200-300/mt ($3-5/mt) over the same period.
One Samsun-based mill has kept its rebar sales closed today.
The general sentiment on the demand side is negative due to adverse weather conditions.
