As of today, December 29, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have remained unchanged in Turkish lira basis with only minor changes on US dollar amid the ongoing currency fluctuations, compared to December 25. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,400-29,600/mt ($551-575/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 42.93. A few local traders are giving additional discounts for serious buyers to generate cash.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş's prices, have fallen by $5/mt on the higher end to $555-580/mt, while acceptable prices are also down by $5/mt on the higher end to $550-575/mt ex-works, over the same period. Producers in the Marmara region are offering for end of January delivery.
Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 28,500/mt ($553/mt) ex-warehouse, stable in the local currency with a decrease of only $2/mt compared to December 25.
Most buyers are in a wait and see stance and handling their end of the year financial reports.
