As of today, January 8, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have mostly fallen by TRY 100-200/mt ($2-4/mt) except in the Izmir region where prices have remained unchanged, with minor changes on US dollar basis, as compared to January 5. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,600-29,500/mt ($553-571/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 43.06.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $560-580/mt ex-works, down by $5/mt on the higher end, while acceptable prices have settled at $555-575/mt ex-works, also down by $5/mt on the higher end over the same period.
Two Iskenderun-based mills have set their official rebar prices today at TRY 28,500-28,700/mt ($552-555/mt) ex-works down by TRY 300-500/mt ($7-10/mt) compared to January 5. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 28,600-28,700/mt ($553-555/mt) ex-warehouse, also falling by TRY 100/mt ($3/mt) over the same period.
Most local buyers are refraining from new purchases due to the adverse weather conditions causing a slowdown in the construction sector.
