As of today, December 8, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have mainly fallen by TRY 100/mt ($3-4/mt) amid sluggish demand, apart from rising by TRY 100/mt in the Marmara region with minor changes on US dollar basis in order to offset currency fluctuations, compared to December 4. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,900-30,000/mt ($566-588/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 42.53.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş's prices, have settled at $575-600/mt ex-works, unchanged, while acceptable prices are at $570-590/mt ex-works, up by $5/mt on the higher end over the same period. Producers in the Marmara region are still testing rebar sales at $595-600/mt ex-works for late December delivery.
Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 28,900-29,000/mt ($566-568/mt) ex-warehouse, with only minor changes on US dollar basis compared to December 4.
One Samsun-based mill has extended the closure of its rebar sales until Monday, December 15.
Most local buyers are in wait-and-see mode until the Turkish Central Bank's interest rate decision due on Thursday, December 11.
