As of today, December 18, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have fallen by TRY 100-300/mt ($2-7/mt) against the backdrop of sluggish demand and ongoing currency fluctuations, compared to December 15. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,500-29,700/mt ($556-579/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 42.73.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş's prices, have settled at $560-595/mt ex-works, while acceptable prices are at $555-585/mt ex-works, both unchanged over the same period. Producers in the Marmara region are testing rebar sales at $580-585/mt ex-works for late December delivery, down by $10/mt compared to December 15.
Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 28,500/mt ($556/mt) ex-warehouse, indicating a decrease of TRY 200/mt ($4/mt) compared to December 15.
One Samsun-based mill has extended the closure of its rebar sales until Friday, January 2.
A few Turkish mills are applying aggressive pricing policies and focusing on their export sales instead of local sales, SteelOrbis has heard.
