As of today, December 11, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have decreased by TRY 200/mt ($5/mt) against the backdrop of sluggish demand and ongoing currency fluctuations, compared to December 8. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,700-29,800/mt ($561-583/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 42.60.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş's prices, have settled at $570-600/mt ex-works, down by $5/mt on the lower end, while acceptable prices are at $565-585/mt ex-works, also down by $5/mt over the same period. Producers in the Marmara region are testing rebar sales at $590-595/mt ex-works for late December delivery, indicating a $5/mt decrease compared to December 8.
Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 28,500-28,800/mt ($558-563/mt) ex-warehouse, versus 28,900-29,000/mt ($566-568/mt) ex-warehouse on December 8.
The Turkish Central Bank today decided to reduce interest rates from 39.5 percent to 38 percent. Most buyers are in wait-and-see mode as they have already replenished their stocks.
