Rebar spot offers in Turkey fall amid sluggish demand

As of today, January 15, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have fallen by TRY 100-200/mt ($2-5/mt), against the backdrop of the ongoing currency fluctuations and sluggish demand, as compared to January 12. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,800-29,700/mt ($556-573/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 43.19. A few local traders are giving additional discounts to generate cash.

Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $560-585/mt ex-works, unchanged over the same period, while acceptable prices have settled at $555-575/mt ex-works, down by $5/mt on the higher end, over the same period. One Marmara-based mill has closed its rebar sales until Monday, January 19.

Two Iskenderun-based mills have set their official rebar prices today at TRY 28,500-29,000/mt ($550-560/mt) ex-works, indicating a decrease of TRY 200-500/mt ($6-10/mt) compared to January 12. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at levels similar to the other mills' rebar prices.

Most local buyers are refraining from new purchases, while monitoring the import scrap price trend.
