Over the past week, demand in the local Turkish wire rod market has remained limited due to the crisis in the construction sector and since buyers have made bookings only to meet their immediate needs in order to avoid entering the new year with high inventories. Besides the weakness of demand, Turkish wire rod producers have reduced their prices by $5-10/mt depending on the region since their production costs have decreased amid the downward movement of import scrap prices. However, Turkish buyers are still exerting pressure on the reduced domestic wire rod prices and demand is not expected to record any significant recovery in the short term.
