Demand within the US import wire rod market has not changed in the last week, as most buyers wait on the sidelines to see what happens with Section 232 tariffs and the possible change to a quota system. However, sources tell SteelOrbis that offers are still coming in for import wire rod, including a few new offers from alternate sources. Offers for imported wire rod in the US domestic market from India and Egypt have been heard this week at around $38.00 cwt. ($838/mt or $760/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports. While such prices are still below US domestic wire rod spot prices, sources say they aren’t competitive enough with other import offers in the market.
Offers for imported wire rod in the US domestic market from Germany are still around $36.50 cwt. ($730/nt or $805/mt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, and offers from Greece still ranging from $36.00-$37.00 cwt. ($720-$740/nt or $794-$816/mt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports.
