Mexican wire rod prices see minimal drop

The price of domestic Mexican wire rod fell US$4/mt during the last three weeks, to reach $482/mt ex-mill.

The trend has little congruence with the federal government’s announcement of the National Infrastructure Plan 2014-2018 three years ago, which would “provide multimillion-dollar investments during that period.”

Although several individual projects were announced in conjunction with the plan, many of the projects were cancelled and the rest failed to benefit the construction market—and thus the domestic steel industry—as promised.
