Turkish merchant bar producers have mainly decreased their prices by TRY 25-195/mt in the last two weeks, while the prices have fallen by $11-20/mt. Only in Karabuk region, the US dollar equivalent has remained unchanged over the same period. The main reasons are the currency fluctuations and weak demand in the holiday period. Most buyers are waiting to have a clearer picture in the import scrap and billet segment.
Most merchant bar rerollers are offering for late September-October delivery, while a limited tonnage is also available from stocks. An Izmir-based mill has also decreased its HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) by $20-25/mt and currently offering $920-925/mt ex-works.
