After holding back on booking import orders recently, buyers in the US import rebar market are reportedly showing renewed interest in import material. The interest is partially attributed to still-soft import offers, and also hints that US domestic mills are no longer willing to offer substantial discounts.

This week, US import offers from Algeria are relatively stable at $40.00-$41.00 cwt. ($882-$904/mt or $800-$820/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, with some sporadic offers still heard slightly below that range. Offers from Mexico, meanwhile, are down $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) week-on-week, now ranging from $43.00-$44.00 cwt. ($948-$970/mt or $860-$880/nt) DDP Houston.
