Local Turkish rebar prices fall amid ongoing currency fluctuations, slack demand

Most Turkish rebar producers have started to cut their local rebar prices due to the ongoing depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar and sluggish demand.

Official dollar-based rebar offers and workable prices from mills in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş, have fallen by $5/mt to $600-615/mt ex-works and $595-610/mt ex-works, respectively, as compared to April 22. One Izmir-based mill has set its official rebar price at TRY 32,700/mt ($605/mt) ex-works today, April 27, indicating an increase of TRY 100/mt in order to offset currency fluctuations, with remaining unchanged on US dollar basis over the same period.

An Iskenderun region-based mill set its official rebar price today at TRY 31,800/mt ($589/mt) ex-works, down by TRY 1,200/mt ($23/mt) compared to April 22, without any additional discounts for serious buyers. Sources report that several Iskenderun-based rolling mills have set their rebar prices today, for serious buyers and cash payment, at TRY 31,800-32,200/mt ($589-596/mt) ex-warehouse, with a decrease of TRY 300-600/mt ($7-12/mt) over the same period.

Currently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market in Turkey are in the range of TRY 32,000-32,700/mt ($592-605/mt) ex-warehouse, falling by TRY 100-600/mt ($3-13/mt) compared to April 22.
