Over the past week, Turkish domestic official merchant bar prices have increased by TRY 160-1,000/mt ($3-33/mt) amid the ongoing depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar and costlier scrap. One Iskenderun-based mill has issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 16,850/mt ($619/mt) ex-works, SteelOrbis has heard.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for September-early October delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. Most local buyers are monitoring the import scrap price trend and are waiting for the Turkish Central Bank's interest rate decision due on Thursday, August 24.
