Over the past two weeks, Turkish domestic official merchant bar prices have fallen by TRY 350-400/mt ($15-16/mt) amid the ongoing currency fluctuations and sluggish demand. One Iskenderun-based mill has issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 16,600/mt ($615/mt) ex-works, SteelOrbis has heard.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for late August delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. Demand is still sluggish due to the unclear financial situation in the country and most buyers are finding it difficult to generate cash for their credit payments. In addition, some local buyers are postponing new purchases and monitoring merchant bar prices to see when they will hit the bottom.
