Local Turkish official merchant bar prices have risen by TRY 1,180-1,900/mt in the local currency compared to Tuesday, June 20, falling by $15-25/mt on US dollar basis, amid ongoing currency fluctuations and sluggish demand. One Iskenderun-based mill has issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 17,150/mt ($658/mt) ex-works today.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for late July-August delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. A few re-rollers are offering their HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) prices at TRY 22,125/mt (849/mt), excluding VAT, ex-works.
The main reason for such a sharp price hike is the ongoing depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar. Merchant bar prices in the Karabuk region are relatively high due to billet prices" one source mentioned. However, most local buyers are postponing their purchases amid the unclear financial situation in the country.
