Domestic merchant bar list prices in Turkey have increased by TRY 25-100/mt ($6-16/mt) over the last two weeks due to the currency fluctuations and the uptrend in scrap prices seen earlier in April. The general sentiment on the demand side is negative due to the Ramadan period and economic uncertainty.
In the Iskenderun region, merchant bar quotations are mainly set in US dollars in order to avoid currency risks. In particular, equal angles are on offer at $660/mt ex-works. Most mills in the Marmara and Izmir regions are currently offering HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) at around $780-800/mt ex-works. “Beams in sizes up to 160 mm are available either from stocks or for end of May-June deliveries. The lead time for 180-300 mm beams is around a minimum of 30-45 days. Sizes of 300-600 mm are mostly available for extended delivery periods,” one source stated.
