Local Turkish official merchant bar prices have risen by TRY 60-420/mt, with minor changes on US dollar basis, against the backdrop of the depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar and given the unclear financial situation in the country. One Iskenderun-based mill issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 13,950/mt ($682/mt) ex-works, rising by TRY 150/mt over the past week, while falling by $8/mt on US dollar basis.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for June delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. A few re-rollers has kept their HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) prices stable in the local currency at TRY 17,500/mt, excluding VAT, ($856/mt) ex-works, falling by $19/mt over the same period.
The general sentiment on the demand side is negative due to credit repayments and the unclear financial situation in the country.
