Turkish merchant bar producers have increased their domestic merchant bar prices by TRY 600-1.000/mt ($12-21/mt) against the backdrop of the ongoing currency fluctuations and higher production costs, in particular higher prices of import scrap, billet and energy. Sources report electricity and natural gas prices in Turkey may increase significantly on April 1 due to war-related risks. However, no official increase has been announced by the time of publication.
One Iskenderun-based mill issued its equal angle price at TRY 28,400/mt ($639/mt) ex-works earlier today, March 31.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for deliveries in late April-early May or from stocks, depending on the size.
Some local buyers are purchasing small tonnages as they believe merchant bar prices may increase further, while some local buyers are maintaining a wait-and-see stance so far.
