Turkish merchant bar producers have kept their domestic merchant bar prices stable on Turkish lira basis over the past week, though their dollar-based prices are down by $1-2/mt week on week, against the backdrop of the depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar and sluggish demand.
One Iskenderun-based mill has issued its equal angle price at TRY 26,250/mt ($599/mt) ex-works today, February 24, indicating a decrease of only $1/mt on US dollar basis week on week, while remaining unchanged in the local currency.
Most merchant bar sellers are still offering either for deliveries in late March or from stocks, depending on the size.
The general sentiment on the demand side is negative and most buyers are refraining from new purchases due to the unclear financial situation in the country.
